Export Dashboard Reports and Build Custom MCP Reports
Create the branded FinDash PDF or PowerPoint from a client dashboard, or use read-only MCP tools to assemble a separate, data-first custom report.
Choose the right report path
Use the dashboard Report Builder when you need the official FinDash layout, firm branding, Exact PDF preview, disclosures, or an editable PowerPoint. Use MCP when the question is ad hoc—for example, a year-to-date spending table, a holdings concentration worksheet, an open-items briefing, or a custom combination of client data that the built-in report does not lay out.
Find Export dashboard PDF
Open the client account and stay in the normal advisor service view. In the dashboard header, click the circular download button beside Search your dashboard; its label is Export dashboard PDF. The same Report Builder can also be opened from Customize with Export PDF. The control appears for a firm admin, advisor, or firm member viewing an accessible client account, but not on that firm user's own dashboard or while Client View is active.
Configure the Report Builder
Use Widgets to enable, disable, search, size, and reorder report sections. Use Content for advisor notes and supported report-specific inputs. Use Design for color theme, typography, report density, and cover style. Use Details to choose Snapshot or Full Plan, select the cash-flow scenario, include a scenario comparison when available, edit the report title, and configure cover text and supplemental pages. Firm admins and advisors can save a configuration under Templates and set a firm default.
Review the Exact PDF
The right side is labeled Exact PDF and uses the same PDF data and rendering path as the download. Wait until Preparing data and preview rendering finish, then review the client name, scenario, dates, totals, enabled sections, page breaks, branding, notes, and disclosures. If a source widget is incomplete, close the builder, correct the underlying client data, and reopen the report.
Export as PDF or PowerPoint
Select Export, then Export as PDF for the page-accurate client deliverable or Export as PowerPoint for an editable meeting deck. FinDash downloads a dated Financial Snapshot file and closes the builder after generation. Open the downloaded file and perform a final review before sharing because it contains client financial information.
Build a custom report with MCP
Start with client_resolve and stop if the person match is ambiguous. After resolution, use explicit clientId or contactId values with read-only tools such as client_profile_get, client_brief_get, client_financial_snapshot_get, client_net_worth_history_get, client_investment_positions_list, client_cashflow_summary_get, client_transactions_list, client_cashflow_scenarios_list, client_cashflow_forecast_get, client_goals_list, and tasks_list. Ask the AI client to preserve returned asOf, sourceCoverage, resolvedRefs, row counts, filters, and pagination details in the report.
Know what MCP does not reproduce
FinDash MCP currently exposes source data and computed read tools, not a tool that opens Report Builder, renders Exact PDF, or exports the built-in PowerPoint. An AI client can summarize returned data and may create a table, CSV, spreadsheet, document, or PDF if that client supports file creation, but the result is separate from the branded dashboard report. It may also omit dashboard-only calculations or household aggregation that are not present in the discovered MCP tool results.
Keep an AI report reproducible
State the client identifier, reporting period, selected scenario, account filters, inclusion and exclusion rules, and requested output columns. Follow nextCursor or offset pagination instead of assuming the first page is complete. For Cash Flow-aligned transaction totals, use client_cashflow_summary_get; raw client_transactions_list results exclude investment accounts and require applyExclusions=true when the row set should honor Cash Flow exclusions. Use client_investment_transactions_list separately for investment activity.
Step by step
- Open the client dashboard: Enter an accessible client account in the normal advisor service view; do not switch to Client View.
- Confirm the data and scenario: Review the household profile, balances, cash flow, goals, and selected planning scenario before export.
- Click Export dashboard PDF: Use the circular download control beside Search your dashboard, or open Customize and click Export PDF.
- Choose the report sections: In Widgets, enable the sections you need and drag them into the intended order.
- Finish Content, Design, and Details: Add approved notes, select branding and density, choose Snapshot or Full Plan, confirm the scenario, and review cover options.
- Inspect Exact PDF: Wait for all report data and the page-accurate preview, then check every enabled section and page.
- Select an export format: Open Export and choose Export as PDF or Export as PowerPoint.
- Review the downloaded file: Open the dated Financial Snapshot, confirm the client and data, and share it only through an approved channel.
