Transaction Categorization
Map historical transactions to the categories advisors actually use for planning.
Category Sources
Categories can come from Plaid, imported statements, manually created categories, and categories already present in the client's cash-flow scenario. FinDash normalizes common labels so historical review and planning categories stay aligned.
Rule Types
When a merchant pattern repeats, create a rule that matches transactions containing a phrase, starting with a phrase, or exactly matching a merchant. Rules can be applied to all time or the currently filtered set, and matching transactions can be reviewed before saving.
One-Off Changes
For one transaction, use the transaction action menu to recategorize only that item. Use this for unusual purchases, reimbursements, transfers, and transactions that should not create a permanent merchant rule.
Exclusions
Exclude specific transactions or create exclusion rules when activity should be visible in history but excluded from planning totals. Exclusions update the analysis without deleting the transaction record.
Goal Assignment
Transactions can be connected to goals when the historical activity should support a goal analysis or explain progress toward a planned objective.
